I have been studying beekeeping for nearly two years but haven’t had the guts to pull the trigger. This year, our amazing neighbors loaned me their hive and tools since they’re taking a break from beekeeping so I built a couple swarm traps to see if I couldn’t capture a swarm. Unfortunately, this year was apparently very low on swarms.
From a friend on the swarm list (they get calls when swarms are spotted and they go pick them up), I heard that on a normal year they can get upwards of 50 calls and they only got 6.
There’s always next year to catch a swarm – or I could order a nuc in the spring… though I’m fantastically stubborn and may just keep trying to catch a swarm until I do.
